How to draw realistic eyes:

Step 1: Prepare your supplies and reference

step 1 realistic eyes

Before you get started with learning how to draw eyes realistically, select a reference that you find that would like to draw.

Square up the reference.

Make sure that all of the supplies are ready and laid out for you to use. Refer to the supplies list above.

All of your pencils should be properly sharpened.

Preparation is key here.

Step 2: Sketch out the proportions from reference

Start by transferring the proportions and creating a very light sketch and outline from the reference.

Make sure that the pencil that you are using is HB and 2B pencil.

To transfer proportions, use a piece of paper.

That way you will ensure that the accuracy of the proportions is there.

The outlines need to be light, so that if you do make a mistake, then you can easily erase it.

The last step, when the outline is ready, make sure that you lightly erase the outline so when we move to the next step, you are fully ready.

Step 3: Add details to your realistic eye sketch

Draw the details of the sketch.

It will include drawing the eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows.

The pencil that is the best for this sketch is 2B.

It is not yet too soft or too light.

Take your time with this part.

Make sure that the lashes are pointing in the right direction.

More time you spend preparing, the more beautiful it will be at the end, as well as realistic.

Step 4: Apply first layer of hatching to realistic eyes

Start applying the first layer of hatching lightly with pencil 2B.

Shade in the darker areas of the reference image.

Make sure that the strokes are in the same direction, carefully put, because if you press too hard on the pencil, it will result in a very unprofessional.

Step 5: Smooth out the skin with the blending stump

Next, take the blending stump and smooth the skin out. Take your time with the blending of the skin.

This is what will create a beautiful base for the eyes.

Start adding a darker tone to the eyelashes as well as the eyebrows.

Focus on the details and continue drawing paying attention to the reference.

That needs to be done in a 4B pencil. Put in the first layer, and then tush it/blend it.

Step 6: Start adding in eye details

Take a 2B pencil and start drawing in the details of the eyes.

Pay close attention and shade in the pupil and the eye.

Do not press too hard, it will create a base for future layers and darker colours.

This is where you take a darker pencil and start creating the hairs of the eyelashes as well eyebrows.

For this you will need black art pencils and a 0.3 liner
