As a beginner, when you decide to enter the wonderful world of bullet journaling, it’s all very exciting! 

You’re eager to start being productive and create beautiful spreads, but where do you start?

Whether you envision having a minimalist journal or one filled with elaborate designs, you must first buy all the essential tools you need to begin.

I remember how overwhelming it was for me when I was a newbie, scrolling endlessly online looking for the best supplies and not knowing which ones to choose.

Below I’ll be sharing my top bullet journal supplies in hope to help beginners kickstart their BuJo journey, without the hassle so you can start experimenting with different bullet journal fonts and layouts in no time. 

10 Essential Supplies for Bullet Journal

I’m sure you already know, there’s no bullet journal without the journal notebook!

As it’s such an essential tool that’ll you’ll be using on a regular basis, it’s really important that you buy one you truly love.

This Leuchtturm1917 bullet journal notebook is my personal favourite because the pages such good quality with minimal bleeding, plus I love the smart-style hardcover.

Almost all bullet journalers have their own special black ink pen. 

This
writing utensil is key when it comes to creating layouts and basic spreads.

Finding a pen that feels comfortable in your hand, is easy to use and you like the look of will make bullet journaling more enjoyable for you.

I really like this PILOT G2 Black Ink Pen because it glides smoothly across any page leaving clean, bold lines.

If you like to doodle, purchasing a good set of artist fine liner pens will benefit you massively.

As a journaler who loves to illustrate, I particularly appreciate The Faber Castell set of 8 assorted pens.

It’s ideal for budding bullet journalists with a passion for drawing as it offers a variety of fine pens, brush pens and a thick bullet tip pen.

Using highlighters in your bullet journal can help with both organisation and aesthetic!

Straight, clean lines are a common feature in bullet journals.

Using a clear ruler is great because it allows you to see the dotted grid on the page which prevents you from making mistakes.

Stickers and stamps are a quick and easy way to embellish your bullet journals.

It can save you a lot of time if you’re not up for doodling, but want to add fun doodles or decoration to your spreads.

Not only are they great for customizing your journal but also for organisation. For example, using them as labels for your index.
